PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce failures as much as possible where control information cannot be reproduced by defects on a recording surface when reproducing information recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: This device sets up file information recording areas 70-72 radially at intervals of 120°on an optical disk and records the same file information at the recording areas 70-72 by using its controller when recording image related information. In this way, even if it cannot reproduce the file information from the file information recording area 71 due to fingerprints 73 or scratches 74, 75 on the disk, it can reproduce the same content from the other file information recording areas 70-72.
