PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus always obtaining a good transfer performance by surely removing paper powder sticking on the surfaces of a carrier and an intermediate transfer body which carry a toner image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus for this invention is provided with: the image carrier 402 on which an electrostatic latent image corresponding to an original image is formed; a developing means for forming the toner image on the image carrier 402 by supplying the toner to the electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the image carrier 402 and developing the electrostatic latent image; the intermediate transfer body 426 to which the toner image on the image carrier 402 is transferred; a transfer means 454 for electrically transferring the toner image transferred to the intermediate transfer body 426 to a transfer material coming in contact with the intermediate transfer body 426; a cleaning means 700 for removing the toner remaining on the intermediate transfer body 426 after transferring the image by the transfer means 454; and a paper powder removing means 600 for removing at least the paper powder which is generated from the transfer material and stuck on the intermediate transfer body 426.
