PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to properly charge a peripheral surface of a image carrier through a charging roller after suppressing the development of discharged products on the periphery of the image carrier. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus has a charging roller 21 which is in contact with the surface of a photoreceptor drum 10 and turns around the axis of the drum 10 following its revolution to charge the surface of the drum 10 with a voltage from a power supply 80 through the charging roller 21. It has a feeder provided electrically in contact with the surface of the charging roller 21 between the roller 21 and the power supply 80. This feeder has a power supply roller 25 which incorporates a heater to heat the charging roller 21 and is applied with a voltage to charge the photoreceptor drum 10 through the charging roller 21.
