PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent belt scratch and image defects by stabilizing the running of a belt. SOLUTION: Spacers 120 are disposed outside the image area of an image forming apparatus (not shown). If an intermediate transfer belt 10 slackens during the running of the belt, the intermediate transfer belt 10 will first come into contact with the spacers 120 outside the image area. Upon coming into contact with the spacers 120, the intermediate transfer belt 10 is pressed, and the intermediate transfer belt 10 is prevented from coming into contact with a secondary pre-transfer guide member 101 and from scratching the belt. In addition, setting the spacers 120 at two positions outside the image area, one before and the other after the image area, enables the spacers 120 to stably press the intermediate transfer belt 10, thus decreasing image defects.
