PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a person from being injured due to the hitting of his/her hand, etc. on an end protruded from a top plate of a steel plate by providing a protective member in the end, in a work bench for cutting a test piece, etc of a small size from the steel plate, etc. of a large size. SOLUTION: The protective member 10 formed into a channel shape is mounted at the top plate end 4 of the top plate 3 of a work bench 1 used for handling such as the cutting of a plate member 5 such as the steel plate, etc. The protective member 10 is provided with a stopper plate 13 projected higher than the surface of the top plate 3 at a position away from the top plate end 4 by a prescribed space, to protect a worker or others passing near the work bench from being injured due to the hitting by suppressing the protruded amount even if the end of the plate member 5 for machining is protruded from the top plate 3.
