PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic coating method by which a design fertile with metallic feeling is obtained while reducing the usage of a luster pigment. SOLUTION: In the coating method using a metallic base coating material prepared by diluting 10-30 wt.% luster pigment, 10-50 wt.% cellulose acetate butylate having molecular weight of 25,000-50,000 and the balance being a coating material solid base material containing an acryl-melamine resin with an ester based solvent and/or a ketone based solvent so that the coating material solid portion is 1-10 wt.%, an intermediate coating step has a 1st intermediate coating step for forming a 1st intermediate coating film layer 103a using an intermediate coating material containing a pigment and a 2nd intermediate coating step for forming a 2nd intermediate coating film layer 103b on the surface of the 1st intermediate coating film layer using an intermediate coating material containing no pigment or a clear coating material.
