PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for oxidizing a primary or secondary alcohol. SOLUTION: The new method for oxidizing the primary or secondary alcohol to produce the corresponding aldehyde or ketone is provided, involving using a nitroxy radical compound of the formula(1)(wherein, R<SP>0</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>are each a straight-chain or branched 1-10C alkyl, wherein two R<SP>0</SP>groups may be bound to each other to form a 5 to 7-membered heterocyclic ring together with the intramolecular nitrogen atom) and a co-oxidizing agent.
