A white ink composition for ink-jet recording including: a white pigment; a dispersing agent; a polymerizable compound; and a photo-polymerization initiator, wherein, when an ink-jet image is formed with the white ink composition and hardened by irradiation of an activation energy ray to have a thickness of 5 through 20 mum, the hardened ink-jet image has a whiteness with lightness index of L*>90 and a chroma indexes of -2<a*<+2 and -5<b*<+5 in CIELAB color space, and a 60° mirror surface glossiness of no less than 80.
