Rotating on bearings, a ball-shaped valve body (4) has a penetration opening (41), a shaft (42) and a valve-control casing (5) with a shaft seal (51). A ball valve has a retainer (6) that acts a valve body seating (31) and has two retainer parts (61,62), between which biassed piezoelectric actuators (7) are mounted so as to be triggered electrically. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a ball valve.
