<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element for electrophoresis having a simple optical system and a small-sized device, and an electrophoresis device. <P>SOLUTION: An array waveguide type diffraction grating is formed, comprising an input waveguide 13; an input side slab waveguide 16 connected to the input waveguide 13; a plurality of array waveguides 18 connected to the input side slab waveguide 16; an output side slab waveguide 17 to which the array waveguides 18 are connected, and an output waveguide 15 connected to the output side slab waveguide 17.
