PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to maintain power generation efficiency of a fuel cell and to carry out safe and stable operation for a long period by efficiently discharging carbon dioxide outside the system, which is generated at a fuel electrode of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). SOLUTION: By using a gas-liquid separation membrane 12 in which a permeation amount of carbon dioxide at 50°C is 10,000 cm<SP>3</SP>/m<SP>2</SP>24 hr atm or more and permeation amount of methanol is 25,000 g/m<SP>2</SP>24 hr or less, or by using the gas/liquid separation membrane composed of ultrahigh-molecular weight polyolefin and/or 4-methyl-1-pentene (co)polymer, carbon dioxide generated at the fuel electrode is discharged outside the system.
