PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an polyamic acid for optical materials, having heat-resistant properties of≥300°C heat decomposition temperature, high in light transmissivity from visible to UV region, and expected to be used as electronic materials such as protective materials and insulating materials for liquid crystal display elements and semiconductors and light communication materials for optical waveguides and the like, which materials are soft and improved in processibility, and to provide polyimide of the polyamic acid. SOLUTION: The polyamic acid comprises a recurring unit represented by formula (4) and the polyimide comprises a recurring unit represented by formula (7). (Wherein, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each independently H, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkoxy, a 1-10C halogenated alkyl, a halogen, cyano or nitro; m is an integer of 1-3; and n is an integer).
