PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new bleaching material, and to provide an external preparation for skin, capable of not only producing an excellent effect of preventing and improving chromatosis but also being safely used, without causing anxiety about safety for the skin, by utilizing the material. SOLUTION: This external preparation for skin contains a naphthalene derivative expressed by general formula (I) (R1is H, an alkyl, an acyl or a sugar residue; and R2, R3, R4and R5are each a 1-4C alkyl), so that the preparation has a bleaching effect.
