Before a flap (7), (8) or (9), (Fig. 1, not shown), on a carton is sealed down to the carton side, the thermoplastic material is melted by hot air. In the embodiment described, flaps on a separate cover (1) are held out laterally from the carton by a guide (20), (Fig. 5, not shown), while air from holes (13) in a conduit (12) is directed on the underside of the flap. The air may be heated by an electric or gas heater. The guide (20) has passages for coolant. The hot air may be directed at the outside of the box wall (3), (Fig. 5, not shown), instead of at the flap. The side flaps (7), (8) may be sealed while the carton is travelling in one direction, and the end flap (9) while the carton is travelling in a direction at right-angles to the first. |
