The method for restoring or programming operations of a non-volatile memory unit entails carrying out the operation in dependence upon data stored in a page memory (PBN). A read out of the content of the restored or programmed memory cells is made, the content modified in dependence upon the read-out data, and another restoring of programming operation carried out in dependence upon the modified data. The data read out from the memory cells is fed to the page memory, and the content of the page memory is modified in sole dependence of this data and of control signals controlling the time sequence. An independent claim is included for a non-volatile memory unit, the restoring or programming of which is carried out by the aforesaid method.
