<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus that can display a stereoscopic image with high resolution and can be easily manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: A surface light source 15 is disposed in the opposite side to the observation side of a liquid crystal display panel in which image data for a left eye and for a right eye are selectively written. The surface light source 15 comprises: a light guide plate 17 which allows light entering an entrance end face 18 in a Y-axis direction to exit toward the liquid crystal display panel; a prism 22 which refracts light entering in a first direction inclined to one end side in the X axis direction into a direction inclined in a left direction at a predetermined angle so as to introduce the light into the light guide plate 17, and which refracts light entering in a second direction into a direction inclined in a right direction, with respect to the Y axis and observed from the liquid crystal display panel side, at a predetermined angle so as to introduce the light into the light guide plate 17; and first and second solid-state light emitting devices 23a, 23b emitting light in the first and second directions toward the prism 22, wherein the light from the first solid-state light emitting device 23a exits as illumination light for a left eye and the light from the second solid-state light emitting device 23b exits as illumination light for a right eye. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
