<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering gear device for a vehicle capable of completely detecting whether a back-up mechanism can work or not, and improving safety. <P>SOLUTION: This steering device for a vehicle is equipped with: a steering shaft connected with a steering wheel; a reaction actuator connected with the steering shaft and for applying a reaction; a rack for steering a steered wheel; a steering actuator provided at the rack; and a back-up mechanism for connecting the steering shaft with the rack through a clutch. Furthermore, the steering device includes: a first detector for detecting the condition of the steering shaft, a second detector for detecting the condition of the rack, the clutch being in a tightened condition when the power of the steering device is off; and a back-up operation confirmation device which drives the steering actuator when the power is switched on, and confirms the operation of the back-up mechanism based on the detected value of the first detector and/or the second detector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
