PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein high-speed reproducing and reverse-order reproducing have a limit, when reproducing a coded data sequence in MPEG method. SOLUTION: In a process of decoding the coded data sequence intermingling I-pictures, P-pictures, and B-pictures, when high-speed reproducing is performed by thinning out and displaying a frame according to a reproducing speed, prior to the reproducing, the format and the order of pictures in a GOP to be reproduced are acquired by a picture configuration acquiring section 104. In a high-speed reproducing mode deciding section 112, pictures to be displayed are determined based on the form and the order of pictures, and pictures to be decoded are further decided based on the format, the order of pictures, and the pictures to be displayed.
