PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) arithmetic unit and a CRC operation method which can reduce the processing amount of operations. SOLUTION: When all values in a fixed area are "0", a memory 12 stores a CRC operation result obtained from each of data having values of a different variable area. A first operation result acquisition part 13 reads out an operation result stored correspondingly to the same value as the value in the variable area which is extracted by a changed portion extraction part 11 from input data and outputs the read result. A second CRC operation result acquisition part 14 outputs a second CRC operation result obtained when values in the variable area of the input data are "0". An XOR operation part 15 executes exclusive OR operation for the outputs from the first and second CRC operation result acquisition parts 13, 14 and outputs the exclusive OR operation result as the CRC operation result of the input data.
