The invention relates to a method for a preventatively acting protection system in a motor vehicle provided with safety devices (1) for reducing the consequences of an accident, wherein driving status data is detected by means of a driving status sensor system (2) and is monitored by the driver with regard to the longitudinal deceleration (ìa_xì) of the vehicle and a braking torque requirement (B). A desired braking evaluation (3) is used to conclude upon an emergency braking (NB) state.
