An electronic module has at least one driver circuit for driving an output signal of the electronic module, where the driver circuit can be switched between a high resistance output state at the signal output and a low resistance state at the signal output. A first programmable register stores a configuration value and a first logic circuit logically processes a configuration value stored in the register with an external switch-over control circuit. A second programmable register stores an initializing value and a second logic circuit logically processes the initializing value stored in the second register with the value outputted from the first logic circuit to generate the internal switch-over control signal. An independent claim is included for a method of switching between output signals.
