PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control device enabling quick start of an internal combustion engine executing scavenge control at a time of start fail and enabling sure start by improving startability of the internal combustion engine under a condition where quick start of the internal combustion engine is impossible. SOLUTION: When scavenge operation with stopping fuel injection is executed after occurrence of start failure, ignition of an ignition plug 30 is executed during scavenge operation if cooling water temperature exceeds -25°C and ignition of the ignition plug 30 is prohibited during scavenge operation if cooling water temperature is -25°C or lower. Consequently, quick start of the engine 1 is enabled when cooling water temperature is relatively high and sure startability is secured when cooling water temperature is relatively low.
