<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system capable of performing printing, fax transmission or electronic mail transmission directly by a multi-functional peripheral apparatus from a data storing apparatus without depending on the existence of a network. <P>SOLUTION: When a USB data storing apparatus is inserted into a USB port to select a required function displayed there, a document converting utility is started to scan the USB data storing apparatus and a file supported on the data storing apparatus is displayed. Respective required functions have a plurality of options which can be selected by a user.
