<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a progressive coding and decoding method and apparatus of three-dimensional mesh data, used in the fields of MPEG-4 synthetic/natural hybrid coding, virtual reality markup language and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The method include the steps of: dividing a 3D triangle mesh of a model into one or more connected components; generating vertex graph information and triangle graph information, respectively for each of the one or more connected components; partitioning the vertex graph information and the triangle graph information constituting the connected components into data partitions each capable of being independently decoded for the respective connected component, and then coding the same; and coding geometrical information, relating to positions of vertices and image information including hue, normal and texture coordinate information, for triangles constituting each data partitions, by data partitions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
