A composite rope (1), especially of synthetic fibers is given an outer sheath (3) of strands consisting of mineral fibers, e.g. basalt fibers or E-glass with a silicon dioxide content of more than 50 %, typically basalt rovings or yarns of 200 to 1000 dtex. Individual strands within the rope can also be covered in this way, e.g. using filaments, fibers or yarns of 5 to 50 mu m. An independent claim is included for nets knotted from such ropes and also a range of braided constructions.
