A process for electrical press welding work pieces (4,5) comprises using a press welding unit (2). The work piece is pressed together and then a welding current is applied. An elastic or plastic electrically insulating material is placed between the work pieces before welding takes place, and is deformed during pressing so an electrically conducting path is created.
