In the present invention, there is disclosed a process for preparing nicotinic acid by spray-drying of aqueous solutions of ammonium nicotinate wherein the invention is characterized in that the nicotinic acid produced as indicated above is subjected to a thermal post-treatment in a fluidized bed or to lowered pressure treatment. This process is particularly suitable for treating a reaction mixture obtained during oxidation of 3-methylpyridine, whereby ammonia and optionally water can be recycled. |
