1,079,059. Reinforcing edges of and seaming non-metallic sheet material. CLARKE-POWER Ltd. March 8, 1966 [Dec. 9, 1964; Dec. 10, 1964], Nos. 50084/64 and 50288/64. Heading B5K. A length of fabric or mesh reinforced plastics material is characterized in that the marginal edges of the material 1 are strengthened by folding over at 2, 3 the material along each marginal edge to form a pocket, inserting a reinforcing strip 4, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride or polythene, into each pocket so that the folded over flap of the material at each edge extends inwardly beyond the inner marginal edge of the strip 4, securing the folded over flaps in position by two weld lines 5, 6 along each edge comprising an inner line 5 beyond the strip 4 and an outer line 6 through the strip 4, and providing a metal eyelet 7 to secure each flap in position. Preferably, the eyelets 7 coincide with the weld line 6. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the sides and ends of a length of plastics material are reinforced as described above but eyelets (7) are provided at the corners only. Two sheets each similar to that of Fig. 2 but with eyelets (7) along their length are joined by lacing, Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, two sheets may be joined by overlapping their marginal edges and passing eyelets through both marginal edges. |
