Central buffer coupling comprises a coupling head (1) and a coupling shaft (2) having a section (6) formed by a first partial piece (7) and a second partial piece (8) connected together by an overload protection. The overload protection has a fixed bolt (10) and an overload bolt (11) which responds in the longitudinal and/or transversal direction of the coupling shaft when a force is exceeded. The fixed bolt and the overload bolt are arranged behind each other in the axial direction of the coupling shaft. Preferred Features: The fixed bolt is arranged at a predetermined distance from the overload bolt. One of the partial pieces is fork-like and the other is tongue-like so that the fork-like piece receives the tongue-like piece.
