Ionic liquid (A) comprises a sulfoniumdicyanamide compound (I). Ionic liquid (A) comprises a sulfoniumdicyanamide compound (I) of formula [-S+>(R2>)(R1>)(R3>)] [Ntriple boundC-N->-Ctriple boundN]. R1>-R3>H, aliphatic 1-20C hydrocarbon (additionally exhibiting hetero atoms of N, S or O, and unsaturated, one or more conjugated or isolated double/triple bonds and one or more functional groups such as amino, carboxyl, acyl or OH), 3-20C cyclo-aliphatic hydrocarbon (where the cyclic residue of ring exhibits hetero atoms of N, S or O, unsaturated, one or more conjugated or isolated double/triple bonds), aromatic and araliphatic groups with 5-22C atoms in the aromatic core (which exhibits 1-4 hetero atoms of N, S or O, and 1-10C hydrocarbon residue), oligoether group (II) of formula (-[(CH2-CHR5>)x-O]y-R4>); x, y : 1-250; R4>H, aliphatic 1-20C hydrocarbon (additionally exhibiting hetero atoms of N, S or O, and unsaturated, one or more conjugated or isolated double/triple bonds and one or more functional groups such as amino, carboxyl, acyl or OH), 3-20C cyclo-aliphatic hydrocarbon (where the cyclic residue of ring exhibits hetero atoms of N, S or O, unsaturated, one or more conjugated or isolated double/triple bonds) or aromatic and araliphatic groups with 5-22C atoms in the aromatic core (which exhibits 1-4 hetero atoms of N, S or O, and 1-10C hydrocarbon residue); and R5>H, methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl. Independent claims are also included for: (1) an electrolyte comprising (A); (2) the preparation of (A); and (3) a battery, a sensor, a condenser, a capacitor, a solar cell or a coloring material solar cell, comprising (A).
