The damper (100) includes a damping unit (129) which couples primary and secondary masses (101,103) in a rotationally elastic manner. The primary mass has a toroidal chamber (117) divided into at least two portions. The damping unit includes coil springs set in series within the toroidal chamber portions. The ends of the coil springs are connected to end guides slidable within the toroidal chamber portions. Friction members are set between adjacent coil springs to rub against the primary mass in response to compressions of the coil springs, such that a friction force is generated in proportion to the relative rotation between he primary and secondary masses. The primary mass is coupled to the engine crankshaft to rotate about a the engine crankshaft rotational axis. The secondary mass is connected to a clutch. |
