1,082,866. Analysing metals. NORANDA MINES Ltd. July 12, 1966 [July 30, 1965], No. 32848/65. Heading B1X. A metallic solid e.g. copper is analysed for a constituent therein, e.g. phosphorus, by disposing the metallic solid as an anode 12 in a predetermined volume of electrolyte together with an inert cathode 13, passing a predetermined quantity of current through the anode and cathode, thereby dissolving a predetermined quantity of the solid in the electrolyte, adding a reagent, e.g. molybdovanadate, to the electrolyte aid subjecting the resulting mixture to analysis e.g. by colorimetric examination. The addition of the moybdovanadate reagent produces yellow molybdinvanadophosphoric acid, the absorbance of which is measured. A solenoid valve 14 discharges the electrolyte from cell 11 to sample cups 15 carried by a turntable 16. At station 17 the sample is withdrawn by a metering pump 21 and is mixed with reagent and air from lines 18 and 19, all three ingredients being metered, and passed through a mixer 20 to a calorimetric analyser, not shown. |
