Sodium and potassium dichloroisocyanurates are prepared by reacting dichloroisocyanuric acid and NaOH or KOH as a slurry in an aqueous reaction medium at a pH of 6-7 and a temperature of 5-65 DEG C., separating the reaction mixture into substantially solid and liquid streams, drying the solid stream to obtain the desired product, and filtering the liquid stream to remove particles of greater than 15 microns size and recycling the filtrate to the aqueous reaction medium. The alkali and acid may be reacted in stoichiometric proportions, and the separation may be facilitated by cooling to e.g. 20 DEG C. The product may be dried, e.g. to less than 0.2% H2O, by contacting with a heated gas, e.g. air. The process may be carried out as a continuous or batch-wise process.
