The device has a cooling unit comprising rings (32) that surround a shaft (31) of a colored wheel (30). The wheel comprises color segments and is rotated by a motor to form air flow. The rings have a tube which includes an air inlet that faces an end of one of guides (35, 36). The shaft and the tube form an opening that permits the passage of the air flow created by the wheel. An independent claim is also included for a system for cooling a projection device.
