A viewing direction (2) is turned around through an optical device (1) inside a hollow glass container (4) so that the viewing direction and incident light (5) through an opening in the container form an approximate right angle. Faults in the surfaces (3) of hollow glass containers are particularly optically emphasized and can be detected by an adapted measuring system, e.g. on a camera.
