PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a battery keeping the performance of the battery high and contributing to safety of the battery, and to provide a method of manufacturing the battery. SOLUTION: The separator for the battery is formed by dispersing micro-capsules containing an epoxy resin curing agent in a foamed sheet of a reactive polymer formed by reacting a crosslinking agent comprising a multi-functional compound having reactivity to a hydroxy group with a crosslinkable polymer having a hydroxy group and an epoxy group to cross link them. The battery is manufactured in such a way that an electrode sheet/separator laminate is formed by laminating the electrode sheet on the separator and bonding them, the laminate is put into a battery container, an electrolyte is poured in the battery container and heating to activate the epoxy resin curing agent, the reactive polymer is crosslinked and cured with the epoxy group, and thereby, the electrode sheet is bonded to the separator.
