SURFACE-COATED CUTTING TOOL AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Surface-coated cutting tool (1) comprising base material (2) and, superimposed on the surface thereof, coating layer (3), wherein the coating layer (3) contains alternate layers (13) composed of at least one A-layer (12) and at least one B-layer (15) superimposed one upon another, and wherein the A-layer (12) consists of a nitride containing Al and Cr in such a proportion that providing that the total number of metal atoms constituting the A-layer (12) is 1, the ratio of the number of Cr atoms is > 0 but = 0.4 while the B-layer (15) consists of a nitride containing Ti and Al in such a proportion that providing that the total number of metal atoms constituting the B-layer (15) is 1, the ratio of the number of Al atoms is > 0 but = 0.7. Further, there is provided a process for producing the surface-coated cutting tool (1).
