PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate flaw detection inspection for a tank provided with a heat insulating member. SOLUTION: This device/method preferably includes inner vessel sheets 3, 4, 16 for forming a storage tank storing a content; an outer vessel sheet for forming a heat insulating layer arranged with the heat insulating material 7, in clearances with respect to the inner vessel sheets 3, 4, 16 therebetween; a measuring unit 10 arranged in the heat insulating layer and for flaw-detecting the the inner vessel sheets 3, 4, 16; and a propulsion devices 35, 36 for making the measuring unit 10 travel in the heat insulating layer. Cracks generated in the inner vessel sheets 3, 4, 16 are easily flaw-detected in such a tank 1, without extracting out the heat insulating material 7 and the content. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
