摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grind over the entire sliding faces of various solid gears including a spur gear and a hypoid gear corresponding to a gear module subjected to surface hardening treatment and the number of teeth to achieve uniform, minute and smooth surface roughness by wet-type abrasive grain grinding. SOLUTION: The method for smoothing a tooth flank of the gear is constituted as follows. The surface of the gear 1, which is subjected to the surface hardening treatment, is properly placed in a rotatable tank storing a liquid composed of a mixture of abrasive grains 3 and a solvent. The abrasive grains are made to collide with the gear 1 by utilizing the centrifugal force and rotating force of the abrasive grains, which are generated by rotation of the tank, and the flow of the abrasive grains. Grinding conditions are properly set in accordance with the gear module and the number of the teeth. Grinding wheel machining conditions are properly selected.
