A supercritical medium, e.g. carbon dioxide at 70 deg C and 150 bar pressure, is brought into contact with granulated feed material (7) in an extractor (1). The extracted component (8) is dissolved and recovered at a discharge (2) in the low pressure side (6) of the circuit, e.g. at 40 deg C and 30 bar. The medium is recirculated through a compressor (3). An Independent claim is also included for a recovery plant using the above process, including an extractor with a reciprocating inlet lock to introduce material into the pressurized medium and feed it to a mixing screw.
