PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display element substrate which can form a column spacer pattern through a simpler and less costly method than the photolithographic process. SOLUTION: This method includes a step of forming a pattern of a column spacer 300 on a printing roll 100, a step of forming a pattern of an overcoat layer 350 on the printing roll 100 carrying the pattern of the column spacer 300, and a step of transferring the overcoat layer 350 and the pattern of the column spacer 300 on a substrate 200, by rolling the printing roll 100 on the substrate 200.
