PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear of an internal combustion engine allowing rapid and reliable switching between a low-velocity operation mode and a high-velocity operation mode. SOLUTION: The valve gear comprises a first rocker arm 33, 34 supported on a rocker shaft 32 in an oscillatory manner, a second rocker arm 35 supported on the rocker shaft 32 in an oscillatory manner and located adjacently to the first rocker arm 33, 34, a cylinder 150 formed on one of the first and second rocker arms 33-35 and communicating with an oil passage 32a provided in the rocker shaft 32 through a communication passage 32b provided in the rocker shaft 32, a first piston 151 installed in the cylinder 150 in a slidable manner, and an engagement protrusion 35a provided in a protruding manner on the other of the first and second rocker arms 33-35 and engageable with the first piston 150 and is provided with a second piston 60 driven by oil pressure of the communication passage 32b and moving the first piston 150 to an engagement position.
