PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planetary gear mechanism reduction type starter of the outer cylinder body fitted impact absorbing mechanism type small, lightweight, simplifying structure or a manufacturing process and having excellent lubricating reliability while ensuring high torque transmission. SOLUTION: This starter has an outer cylinder fitted impact absorbing mechanism with an outer cylinder body 66 fitted to an internal gear 62 to come in frictional contact with the internal gear 62. In this case, rotation stop protrusions 664 are extended axially forward from the outer cylinder body 66 and fitted into rotation stop groove parts 121 on the inner peripheral surface of a center case 12. Rotation stop of the outer cylinder 66 can thereby be realized without increasing the diameter of a one-way clutch 7 including the outer cylinder body 66, so that starter constitution is reducible.
