PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder which is less in the number of components, and capable of smoothly rocking a rocking arm and rotating a pickup roller with excellent balance. SOLUTION: A rotary shaft 31 of a pickup roller 6 supported by rocking ends of rocking arms 27, 28 and a pickup roller side driven transmission member 34 of a drive transmission means 36 are connected to each other via a coil spring clutch 33. A compression coil spring 39 is elastically mounted between a circumferential side face of a pickup roller pivotably supporting part of the rocking arm 27 and the driven transmission member 34 via a friction member 37 in a compressed state coaxially with the coil spring clutch 33.
