<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave device provided with excellent filter passing characteristics of low insertion loss and low VSWR and also provided with a balance/unbalance conversion function, and communication equipment provided with it. <P>SOLUTION: A surface acoustic wave element 101, wherein electrode groups 201 and 202 formed on a piezoelectric substrate 100 are cascade-connected, connection pad electrodes 701-703 connected to the electrode groups 201 and 202 and an annular grounding electrode 801 surrounding the electrode groups 201 and 202 are disposed and the IDT electrodes 302, 303, 502 and 503 of the electrode groups 201 and 202 are connected to the annular grounding electrode 801, is mounted on a mounting board 900 where an annular grounding conductor 1001 facing the annular grounding electrode 801, connection pad conductors 1101-1103 facing the connection pad electrodes 701-703 and through grounding conductors 1201 and 1202 connected to the annular grounding conductor 1001 are formed.
