<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling bearing enabling the safe supply of a lubricant applied onto a DLC coated surface and a spindle device having the rolling bearing. <P>SOLUTION: DLC coatings 10 and 15 are applied onto an inner ring raceway surface 31 and an outer ring raceway surface 41 in contact with rolling elements 2 when an angular ball bearing 1 is rotated, oil sumps 20 and 25 are formed near the contact running faces 32 and 42 thereof, and grease is applied thereto. When the bearing 1, a bearing without DLC coating, and the bearing having the inner ring raceway surface and the outer ring raceways surface coated with the DLC coating are rotated 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, and 22,000 turns per minute and the raised temperature of the outer ring after the rotation is measured, the temperature of the angular ball bearing 1 is lowest. Since the grease held in the oil sumps 20 and 25 is supplied to contact faces 33 and 34 when the bearing is rotated, a coefficient of friction thereof is not increased, and the raised temperature of the contact faces 33 and 43 is suppressed to suppress the deterioration of the grease.
