PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power generation method and apparatus using an organic substance capable of obtaining large current density even in continuous operation. SOLUTION: A triple-layered cylindrical body consists of an anaerobic region 4 including an anode 1 to which an electronic mediator is fixed, an organic substance, and a microorganism capable of growing in an anaerobic condition; a diaphragm having a large substance interchange coefficient; and an aerobic region 5 including a porous cathode 3. A close circuit is formed of the anode 1 and the cathode 3 through a lead 6. Oxidation reaction of the microorganism using the organic substance as electronic donor proceeds in the anaerobic region 4 and reduction reaction using oxygen as electronic acceptor proceeds in the aerobic region 5. An alkaline substance supplying mechanism 7 is provided in the anaerobic region 4 to supply required quantity of the alkaline substance to the anaerobic region 4 through a pipe 81 based on the measurement of pH value of solution in the anaerobic region 4. The pipe 81 and a pump 80 are connected to the anaerobic region 4, so that a liquid current is generated between the anode 1 and the diaphragm 2 to promote substance interchange through the diaphragm 2.
