A method (fig. 6A) and apparatus for providing a matter-centric document organization (fig. 5, 520) is described. The matter-centric document management (520) system creates a single wokspace (fig. 10) for all information. The information (fig. 2A) includes tasks, events, and discussions. In one embodiment, the workspace (figs. 10,14) may further include people, time and billing reports (fig. 9).
