<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an air bag into a predetermined lump-like shape by not regularly folding the air bag but merely pushing/contracting it. <P>SOLUTION: The curtain air bag 1 is stored in a case 10 such that the upper side side is arranged at a depth bottom surface 17 side and the lower side side is arranged at a release port 16 side. The curtain air bag 1 is inflated by feeding air into the curtain air bag 1. The curtain air bag 1 is pushed/contracted from the release port 16 side toward the depth bottom surface 17 by an abutment body 30. At this time, air in the curtain air bag 1 is made flowing out through an inflator opening 6. After the curtain air bag 1 is pushed/contracted to a predetermined small lump-like shape, the air bag lump 1' is drawn out to the outside of the case 10 while sliding along the depth bottom surface 17.
