PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease reflection quantity of light returning from a solid-state image pickup device on an exiting face, and to obtain an image in a favorable color balance and no ghost or flare by appropriately controlling spectral characteristics of a wavelength selective filter which transmits light in a green region. SOLUTION: The system includes a plurality of prisms 11, 12, 13, and a plurality of wavelength selective filters (dichroic films 15, 16) disposed on predetermined prism faces of the prisms 11, 12, 13 and having different spectral characteristics to selectively transmit or reflect light in a predetermined wavelength range. Transmission characteristics are imparted to the wavelength selective filter transmitting light in a green region (dichroic film 16 or 15) in such a manner that its spectral transmittance curve shows a rise in a shorter wavelength side of the green region along the boundary between a blue region and a green region.
